About Us

Our mission is to provide birthing people with compassionate support and knowledge during childbearing transitions.

While we offer support in the traditional Doula roles of labor support, postpartum and infant care support and childbirth education, we also are committed to providing comprehensive support– including fitness, sex and intimacy coaching and abortion support. We strive to do our work through an antiracist, inclusive, equitable and open-hearted lens.

Portland Family Doulas defines these important lenses as follows:

Anti-racist: We acknowledge and seek to continue to understand that to be part of dismantling a system that was built to oppress and harm Black, Indigenous and People of Color we must actively engage in work to advance racial equity. We know that our education will never be finished and are fully committed to learning from communities that we have the privilege to work with.

Equitable: We understand that to best meet the needs of the community members we are privileged to work with, we must understand they may come to our services with different levels of support needs. We actively commit to engaging, pausing and listening to the needs that are shared with us and seek to embrace the different levels of support needs shared and actively seek to remove barriers that we may accidently uphold.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
